In Ancient Woods – a poem

Something that came to me whilst walking in the woods this weekend just gone…the accompanying photos were taken on the same outing…I think there is something quite magical about these trees – they almost look like they are moving…dancing…

In ancient woods, my heart it dwells
Forever enchanted, caught by its spell
How long has it been?  I cannot tell
But amongst leaf and branch, I know all is well

A world of magic, beyond time and space
I have heard its breath, I have seen its face
Paths of leaves, skin of green lace
In ancient woods, I leave no trace

Absolutely beautiful!!! I especially love ‘skin of green lace’… so evocative of ivy’s winding grip on a tree trunk. The trees look practically human, and certainly Ent-like!

  3. Fabulous poem & great photos too!

  4. I was just looking out at my woods about an hour ago. Really looking for a few signs of Spring but I noticed how Regal and Ancient my trees look at this time of the year. Great poem…thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much. The pictures do have a haunting quality to them, but surprisingly when we were up there, the atmosphere was very peaceful and very light…Brightest Blessings
