A Few Random Thoughts on Crystals

As you may have noticed, I love crystals.  Who doesn’t?  Whether you think they are magic or not, everyone loves crystals, right?  The way they sparkle, the way they have formed naturally, that little imperfection that makes each one different from all the others…[Here’s a random thought on a random thought – confused yet? :-)…that last little statement makes me think crystals are little bit like people…each one of us are unique, individual, slightly different from all the rest…]

I fell in love with crystals long before I knew they had magickal properties.  I collected them, along with fossils and pebbles from the beach (so much cooler than dolls), and it is from this my life-long love of the natural world stemmed.  Even after I came to understand their metaphysical connections, I was still drawn to the science that surrounded them.  This precipitated my ‘need’ to get my BSc in Geography.  For a while a flitted with the idea of archaeology, or even combining my love of the two subjects in Geoarchaeology, but eventually my need to understand and learn about the natural world won through.

I love to know what a person’s favourite crystal is.  This can change as we change, as our needs change, or even as our likes change.  What’s your favourite crystal?  And what do you think it says about you, if anything?

My favourite crystal at the moment is peacock ore; I love the way the different colours shimmer in the light.  What does it mean to me at the present time?  I think it tells me to look for that little spark of something special in everything I do, so I can appreciate the small things in life as well as the big things.  That way my life will become richer and more vibrant.

I have always been attracted to ‘goldstone’, a copper and glass combination which does not occur naturally (alas!). Currently I’m wearing a moonstone pendant, and have been for the past month and a half. I began craving a moonstone 2 years ago and asked the universe to send me some. My manifesting sometimes works fast, sometimes slow 🙂 depending on my definition of ‘fast’ or ‘slow’!
Good to read your blog, as always.

Goldstone is very pretty 🙂 Your moonstone pendant sounds lovely – moonstone is one of my favourite crystals (which is why I named the emagazine after it 🙂 ). I loved the comment about manifesting – it made me smile. Brightest Blessings

Dearest Girl, I am so glad that you are telling people about crystals and now I feel a little stupid because I am going to do a section on my Wiccan thing. I am going to do the best I can to do you justice. I don’t have a degree and I’m not skilled in the ways of WordPress and hope things are well and I don’t make to many mistakes. I’ve been studying Chakra’s as of late and all of the stones that heal and I’m doing a little section on it. I hope you read it because I’d like it if you tell me what you think about all of it. Thank you so much. Brightest Blessings. Byrony.

Actually, Byrony, it was your posts on crystals that inspired me to write this one! 🙂 So, big thanks to you 🙂 I enjoy reading your blog and your posts, so I am looking forward to the next ones you share. Brightest Blessings ~*~)O(~*~

I was drawn to stones as a kid. I love amethysts. I also have this medium sized rock I found years ago. To this day I can’t figure out exactly what kind of rock it is.

  4. I sort of wonder if a lot of Pagan-minded people started out randomly collecting rocks and stones as a child. A lot of my Pagan friends have confessed to this hobby in their childhood, and I did it myself.
It’s hard for me to choose just one favorite, but I will admit that I’m always attracted to Hematite, Howlite, and Peridot. I have multiple jewelry pieces with those three.

    Merry meet Sammi,
I guess that my favourite crystal is Quartz. I have a Quartz Pendulum and a set of crystals I bought on a trip to Großglockner (the highest peak of Austria). I unfortunately don’t know the names of all the crystals in the set, but I love them anyway. 🙂
Have a nice day and blessed be,
    Cassandra.

    • sammiwitch says:

Hi Cassandra. Sometimes you don’t need to know their names to know what they can do; you might just instinctively know by how you feel around them or what thoughts come to mind when you look at / hold them. I love the sound of your pendulum 🙂 Brightest Blessings ~*~)O(~*~

  6. humm I have never thought of my favorite. maybe labradorite and moonstone? I like how you can look at it and fine the sparkle within.

    • sammiwitch says:

I like the idea of the duality of labradorite and moonstone; one light, the other dark but they both have that iridescent quality and are very beautiful. 🙂 Brightest Blessings ~*~)O(~*~

I don’t know if I have a favourite! I’m very fond of celestine and labradorite, for starters. My wife and I go rock hounding and have found a wealth of green apatite, that’s nice too 🙂 I like to keep crystals everywhere to brighten my day — I’ve got crystals on the altar, on my desk, in my purse, in the car, and at the office. They just cheer me up 🙂

    • sammiwitch says:

I love the sheen of Labradorite. It’s amazing to think that you have your own natural source of green apatite…from the earth to you…no shops, storage, warehouses. That is amazing. 🙂 Brightest Blessings ~*~)O(~*~

Your post inspired me to start my own stone/crystal collection. For some reason I haven’t done it yet!
I do have favourites among stones. Since forever I love lapis lazuli and since I got white jade pendant I have another favourite.
